RECLAIMED TOOLING “AS GOOD AS NEW” SAYS REPORT.
An independent report, commissioned by a UK engineering company specialising in tooling reclamation, shows that its reclaimed tools offer working life and performance comparable to new products.
NTR Ltd instigated the report — part of a UK-Government-backed Shell Technology Enterprise Programme (STEP) — to demonstrate the quality of its BS ISO 9001: 2000 registered tooling reclamation and workholding service.
The company says it is the only reclamation firm to have BS ISO recognition and that, in the year 2005/6, out of over 35000 tools reclaimed, the customer acceptance level was 99.3%.
Customers include leading automotive and aerospace manufacturers, such as Ford, Volvo, Land Rover, JCB, British Aerospace, Rolls-Royce, Hyde Aerospace, and Dowty Landing Gears. NTR also has numerous clients in the oil, marine, rail and general sub-contract engineering areas.
“Our reclamation service is some 50% to 70% cheaper than the cost of new products and, of course, there are important benefits as regards the environment,” says Craig Naylor, managing director of NTR Ltd. “We are now offering our service to buyers in Germany, and the results of trials held in the country have proved extremely successful.”
In the UK, the company says that it is three times bigger than its nearest competitor and commands between 65% and 70% of the market. In Finland and Sweden, it claims 80% to 90% of the market.
Other services provided by NTR include: reconditioning of workholding; CNC regrinding and recoating of solid carbide drills and end mills; manufacture of new tooling to drawing; and a tool modification service to suit different types of inserts, cutting diameters, heights and angles.
The company also stocks spares from leading manufacturers
Although normal delivery time for Europe is up to four weeks door-to-door, the company also operates a 24-hour emergency service, dependent on need.
