To design and create an integrated computerised/manufacturing scheduling system (MRP II) using a NEW database management system.
Feasibility study on linking the CNC milling machines and grinding machines with the information database.
To identify the current and future market potential so that the current manufacturing strategy and operations can be devised for expected growth.
- Create a database (knowledge base) that will contain electronic drawings and process routes/costing for each of the product range.
- Initially identify the key conceptual database model for NTR's requirements, identifying crucial database modules: BOM, MPS, raw materials inventory, WIP and inventory status, capacity planning, scheduling, costing, process routings, forecasting.
- Implementation of the database in offices and the shop floor, including training for relevant staff.
- Recording feedback on the software performance and making necessary improvements.
- Create a Training and Help manual for the developed MRP II system.
Feasibility study on linking the CNC milling machines and grinding machines with the information database.
- To identify whether the present manufacturing system requires a more advanced and computer integrated one through a techno-economic study.
- Study the CNC machines (types of machining controller languages) presently existing and their suitability for CADCAM integration.
- Analyse whether the present CAD and CAM systems can be integrated or whether new CADCAM system software needs to be implemented.
To identify the current and future market potential so that the current manufacturing strategy and operations can be devised for expected growth.
- Indentify the current and future trends in the business operations of NTR, through the study of home and oversears markets.
- Study the competitions, identifying key competitors and key markets and modes of competition.
- Review the business strategy of NTR for the future.
- Develop a manufacturing strategy that will achieve the business and marketing strategy of NTR.
- Identify the key manufacturing projects (methodologies, systems, technologies) that will neeed to be implemented, including all the resources and training needed to achieve the business objectives.
- Review the KTP programme and recommend its involvement in the future manufacturing strategy through a detailed written report.
- The relevant staff (at all levels) to be trained in the new processes and procedure for the various sub elements of JIT, QC and MRP II.
